Young players need freedom of expression to develop as creative players . . . they should be encouraged to try skills without fear of failure.
— Arsène Wenger, Arsenal coach

LEVEL: Beginner/Intermediate

The Recreation league offers an opportunity for young players to build friendships, develop community and build a passion for the game through friendly competition.  The program is managed by our professional soccer staff with years of experience in youth development, however all teams are coached by parent volunteers. We offer guidance to volunteer coaches to support a positive learning environment.

When does the season run?

We offer our Recreation league in the fall (early Sept. – early Dec) and the winter (early Jan. – early March) for 10 weeks.

What do I need to bring on the first day? What should I bring every session?

  • Uniform
  • Soccer ball with air (size 3 if your child is 8 or under, size 4 if your child is 12 or under, size 5 if your child is 13 or over)
  • Water
  • Shin guards
  • Sneakers

What is the uniform and when do I receive it?

In the fall we provide a team jersey, shorts and socks. In the winter we provide a team jersey. You will receive the 2nd week once teams are finalized.

What is the difference between Recreation League and Classes?

Recreation League  Emphasizes skill development, team play and sportsmanship through small-sided games in a positive and supportive environment. The Recreation League is coached by volunteer parents with an emphasis on fun and learning.

Classes  Taught by professional coaches, our classes  provide a gateway for the dedicated recreational player to our more competitive programs. Advanced classes are also offered for the more skilled players for supplemental training

Can I drop my child off or do I need to stay?

Yes, you can drop your child off. The majority of parents stay during the games.

Is there a practice and game? How often does my child meet?

The Recreation League does not have weekly practices.  Games are on the weekend with a warm-up/practice session prior to the game.

When do I find out what team my child is on and the schedule for the entire season?

You will be put on a team before the second session. The first session your child will be assessed to make sure the teams will be even for the rest of the season. You will also be given a more detailed scheduled once your child is put on a team

How long is each game? I see that the time slot says 3 hours.

In the fall, each game is one hour, however we provide a 30 minute time slot for warm-up/skills session before each game.

In the winter, due to space constraints, sessions will be one hour in duration (10 min warm-up, 50 min game).

How long does the season run?

The season runs for 10 weeks.

If we have enough players and a coach can we bring a whole team into the league?

No. We don’t allow entire teams to join. Everyone on the team is welcome to register, but you may not join as a team. We will assess everyone during week 1 and make evenly balanced teams for the remainder of the season.

Can I request to have my child play with his/her friend?

DUSC will strive to honor player requests wherever possible but cannot guarantee that all requests can be made. Our aim is to create evenly balanced teams and allow players to continue current relationships and develop new friendships. Please note that we cannot guarantee all requests, otherwise we risk diluting the competitiveness and enjoyment for all involved. Requests should be made at registration (on-line).
