On Saturday 10/15/11 the U10 Academy played a scrimmage against Young Rock. After a long tournament the past weekend at the Brooklyn Italians tournament, it was nice to be home again.
The game consisted of an 8v8 game played informally with many subs done throughout the game. All DUSC players present had their turn in the big game and in the smaller 4v4 games. Every player tried different positions, some they know very well and others that by their characteristics, I knew they were not going to be very comfortable. The attitude of our players was quite remarkable as they always try their best when they are on the field. Some struggle to adjust to their "new" positions but seeing their minds processing this new environment is very promising.
The opponent was very physical and some even looked a few years older than the rest. Their strength was their shot but their passing was not as accurate. Although we struggled in offense dues to their player's size, we managed to create opportunities and even scored 2 goals.
Overall, it was a positive weekend and we all feel that our players are making progress week after week. We are also working on their concentration and team awareness. Players should always come to practices and games ready to play, this means with proper equipment and also mentally prepared to play soccer and not to just hang out with friends.
