Player Pool Structure

For our U6 – U8 players, we have implemented a unique pool training system:  The group will ideally have 36 players trained by three qualified coaches (dependant on number of players).  The player pool structure provides every player with the same opportunity for playing time and development.  Rosters will differ according to ability, with the understanding that players develop at different rates before puberty.

Mobility between groups is expected – decisions about placement will be made by all the coaches assigned to an age group.  The pool structure allows for the opportunity for players to move between teams in the course of a season.

At U9 and U10, the pools are divided with more reference to player skills levels.  At U10, players pools are effectively teams, with dedicated coaches and team coordinators.

Basic Commitment

In the FALL season, training sessions will be held twice a week.   In addition:

• U6/7 players are encouraged to join the DUSC Recreational League;
• U8 players will play occasionally on weekends, either amongst other DUSC teams, or in friendly competitions with other clubs;
• U9 – U10 players will have a mandatory weekend session every weekend where they will play amongst other DUSC teams or in friendly competition with other clubs; these teams may also play in local Columbus Weekend tournaments.

In the WINTER season, training sessions will move indoors, and will be held once a week.  In addition:

• U6/7 players will be encouraged to join the DUSC Winter recreational league;
• U8 – U10 players will play in a weekend indoor league and have a second weekend training day on many weekends.

In the SPRING season, training sessions move back outdoors, and again meet twice a week.  In addition:

• U6 – U9 will play one day per weekend (likely Sundays); games will be either between DUSC teams and/or friendly games with other clubs;
• U10 teams may enter league play (with one game each Saturday) plus additional intramural or friendly games on a second weekend day on occasional weekends.

U8 – U10 teams will enter the DUSC/GGFC pre-season tournament in March; U10 teams may enter a local Memorial Day tournament.

Training days will remain consistent from season to season to the extent allowed by permit restrictions.  DUSC permits do change between Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, and some adjustments may be required.

Training sessions and weekend games are mandatory:  the program is progressive – missing sessions means missing important steps in the developmental curriculum.  A calendar, with the basic dates for the 2010 - 11 season is available at www.DUSC.net.

Uniforms must be worn at all training sessions.

Players must also have shin guards, soccer shoes (flats or molded cleats), a size 3 ball (U6 – 8) or a size 4 ball (U9 and U10), and a drink at each session.

Players not dressed appropriately may not be allowed to play.  Please have your child ready to begin on the field promptly.  Latecomers delay the session for everyone.
