DUSC - Girls Academy for the 2013-14 season: Open Tryouts
We are pleased to announce that as part of our commitment to ensuring that girls have extensive opportunities to play soccer, DUSC is launching the DUSC Girls Academy for girls aged 6 to 11. This is the first step in rebuilding our girls program equivalent to our boys program. In time, we will be adding other programs, including a Girls Travel program.
The mission of our Academy programs is to develop committed and competitive players from U8-U11 in the technical, tactical, physical and psycho-social components of the game required to be a successful soccer player.
Players are trained by professional, licensed youth coaches who understand the individual needs of the players at each phase in their development and create a positive learning environment that encourages players to experiment, play freely and creatively, and nurture a passion for the game.
The main emphasis at this phase is not on wins or losses but developing technically proficient soccer players.

Downtown United Soccer Club (DUSC) is the most comprehensive youth soccer program in New York City, serving thousands of kids a year. DUSC is deeply committed to the interests of our kids as soccer players and young people as they grow and learn, ensuring that everyone regardless of gender, age, race, skill level or income has the opportunity to play and enjoy the game.
Kevin Rivera, one of our U10 Academy players, and his family, have been evicted from their East Harlem apartment building due to the building being condemned by the City. The family has been bounced around from Queens to Brooklyn and has tried to stay in touch as much as possible under the circumstances out of concern for Kevin's missing so many practices recently.
The club has given me permission to spearhead an effort to raise money for the family to help them get through this difficult time, and therefore I am asking for your support. Donation checks should be made out to DUSC with the note "U10 Rivera Collection" (any amounts will be greatly appreciated and amounts over $250 will qualify as a charitable deduction for tax purposes) and should be handed to Mario, the U10 Coordinator.
The club has also been gracious enough to make this a club-wide effort and asked coordinators from all academy and travel teams to ask for contributions from whomever is able.
Thanks in advance to all who make a contribution.
