The Central City Initiative
DUSC has launched an ambitious outreach program: the Central City Initiative.  The CCI brings soccer and professional coaching into inner city schools, many of which do not even have structured athletic programs.

For 25 years, DUSC has provided many children with the chance to play soccer, but there are many more who do not know of our program or can not afford to play soccer. Many also attend schools that, because of budgetary constraints, do not even have structured phys-ed programs.

Many of these children come originally from countries in which soccer is the national game. Their parents could dribble as soon as they could walk. They learned the value of teamwork and the thrill of playing a competitive sport. But in New York, many of these same families do not have such an opportunity.

The City and State have helped our club by providing the wonderful fields at Pier 40 as well as the other fields in our neighborhood. Having these facilities has been a great benefit to my children and to all of those who have played in our program. Now it is time to reach out and offer our facilities and coaches to the rest of the community.

In the Central City Initiative, we send our coaches into Inner City Schools. They conduct clinics, teach kids how to play soccer, and incorporate those who want more competition into our program. In many cases, these schools have no other organized athletic programs. Our goal is to provide this program to every inner city school.

Please help us make this dream possible.  Consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Central City Initiative so that we can continue and expand our program.  Or volunteer to serve on a fund raising committee so we can build this critical program.

We need a group of parents who believe that every child in New York deserves the opportunity to learn and play sports.
